GCAW Submits Collective Response to European Commission Consultation on Animal Welfare

The Global Coalition for Animal Welfare (GCAW) has submitted a collective response to the European Commission’s consultation on the revision of EU animal welfare legislation, contributing industry perspectives to this important policy review.

GCAW’s response welcomes the Commission’s ambition to strengthen animal welfare standards and highlights the importance of science-based, practical legislation that can be effectively implemented across complex food supply chains. It also emphasises the value of aligning regulatory reform with the commitments already made by many food businesses, such as on cage-free eggs, helping to create a level playing field within the EU and for imported products.

The submission, supported by Aramark, Compass Group, Elior Group, IKEA, Sodexo, Minerva Foods and Nomad Foods, underlines the role of value-chain engagement in shaping legislation that delivers meaningful welfare outcomes in practice. GCAW looks forward to continued dialogue with policymakers as the legislative process progresses.
